#WSBV Road to the Finals: Mexico Guerreros06 May 2015
Mexico Guerreros are currently experiencing one of their most exciting and successful World Series of Boxing (WSB) seasons ever, with the North American Franchise reaching the quarter-final stages of the competition after failing to qualify from the group stages last time around.
The Mexican team are currently one of the most in-form teams in all of WSB, and ended the Regular Season with eight wins from their last nine matches to finish third in Group A.
Although the Guerreros have to travel to Guba in the quarter-final stages against Azerbaijan Baku Fires, they will be confident after four superb away victories in the group.
This season, the team has enjoyed success from their boxers across many weight divisions, which is a testament to the tremendous team spirit which runs throughout the entire squad.
6-1 Raúl Curiel García has been a sensation across Season V, finishing second in the Light welterweight (64 kg) rankings and earning a Rio 2016 Olympic Games quota in the process.
Light flyweight (49 kg) Joselito Velázquez Altamirano has an identical record, and is one of the most entertaining boxers to watch in any weight class.
4-1 Lightweight (60 kg) Lindolfo Delgado has excelled at home with four wins in Mexico, and Welterweight (69 kg) star Marvin Cabrera is currently on a three fight winning streak.
Meanwhile, two of the boxers Mexico will be hoping to drive them towards the semi-finals hail from Ecuador, with 3-0 Light heavyweight (81 kg) Carlos Mina coming off an impressive win over two-time AIBA World Champion Julio Cesar De La Cruz, while Heavyweight (91 kg) Julio Cesar Castillo Torres achieved three victories in six weeks at the end of the group stages.
It has taken some time for the Mexico Guerreros to fully realise their potential in WSB, but they have now developed a winning mentality and an elegant style that has the capability to defeat any other team in the competition.
