#WSBV – Will Caciques Venezuela upset Astana Arlans Kazakhstan in their WSB debut?
16 January 2015
Astana Arlans Kazakhstan have been one of the most successful Franchises in the history of World Series of Boxing (WSB), and the Season III winners begin the fifth season of the competition against Caciques Venezuela who are making their WSB debut.
Kazakhstan are at home with the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace in Almaty the venue on Saturday 17th January, and fans across the world can watch the action free, live and on demand 18:00 (GMT +6) at AIBABoxingTV.com.
The Light flyweights (49 kg) open the action with Kazakhstan’s Mardan Berikbayev competing against Venezuela’s rookie Yoel Finol who competed in 2014’s AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.
Berikbayev was one of the most impressive fighters at his weight class last season, and will fancy his chances against the talented, but raw South American.
WSB veteran Bantamweight (56 kg) Meirbolat Toitov is a key member of Kazakhstan’s Franchise, and faces Venezuela’s José Vicente Azocar in the second fight of the evening.
The third clash is very intriguing at Light welterweight (64 kg), with Astana Arlans athlete Samat Bashenov fighting Venezuela’s Luis Arcón who fought successfully for USA Knockouts last season amassing a 3-1 record.
Bashenov has been successful in many international events of the past few years, but Arcón is one of the few Caciques with WSB experience, and could be their best chance of a victory in this match.
The Middleweights (75 kg) are in action next, and expect fireworks as Kazakhstan’s exciting Meiirim Nursultanov squares off against Juan Rodríguez who is approaching his best years at 24-years-old, plus has previous WSB experience.
In the last fight of the evening, one of Season IV’s best boxers makes his first appearance of the season at Heavyweight (91 kg).
Vasiliy Levit destroyed all of his opponents last season, and fights Alfonso Flores who won the silver medal late last year at the Central American & Caribbean Games.
