Comment on EUBC European Union Women’s Boxing Championships 2017
19 August 2017The EUBC European Union Women’s Boxing Championships had stopped to 2013, after seven editions always of excellent quality, creating a considerable hole.
EUBC, under presidency of Franco Falcinelli, has strongly backed the resumption of the event, hosted in its Umbria, in some centers affected by the earthquake (Cascia, Roccaporena).
In this regard, the President Franco Falcinelli EUBC highlights: “The EUBC European Union Women’s Boxing Championships was an important signal to draw attention towards those who suffered damage by the earthquake and, with great willpower, tries to recover. Women’s boxing is proud to have given its contribution by offering a high technical and participatory tournament”.
A week of boxing with 76 matches.
Confirming the quality of the event, among the 19 Nations present 15 rose on the podium (Italy, Turkey, Bulgaria, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands and Greece, as well as Czech, Croatia, France and England who have not reached the final).
Only Hungary, Moldovia, Lithuania and Wales without medals. Romania and Montenegro opted out at the last moment.
The Turkey has strengthened the medals table with three golds and a silver, carrying the loot to 45 podiums overall (18 golds), followed by Poland 39 (10) France 38 (13), England 30 (10), Hungary 28 (8); Italy 28 (7), Romania 21 (5); Bulgaria 19 (5), Germany 18 (1), Sweden 10 (0); Finland 9 (1); Ireland 8 (7); Holland 6 (1), Belgium 6 (0), Denmark 5 (2); Greece and Croatia 5 (0); Spain, Czech and Switzerland 3 (0); Norway, Lithuania, Serbia, Wales, Slovenia, Scotland 1 (0), for a total of 26 Nations. Germany, Finland and the Netherlands win gold in the event. Italy, with nine medals, is the most awarded among the participants.
Important the absence of wounds of athletes is a confirm of the use of suitable material. Technical success and spectacular should ensure the continuity of the tournament over the years without European and World Championships.
