Newsletter EUBC by President Franco Falcinelli – August 2017
08 September 2017Dear Boxing Friends,
As you know the European International boxing activity continues uninterruptedly. In August Germany, Belarus, Serbia, Ukraine, Russia and Italy have organize eight international high level tournaments, one of which was the EUBC European Union Women’s Boxing Championships.
A special gratitude is addressed to the Italian Boxing Federation for the great success of this EUBC Women’s event, which was held in Cascia from August 4th to 13th. I would like to thank the Italian Boxing Federation President Mr. Vittorio Lai and his staff for the excellent management and organization of this important EUBC event and also the Supervisor of the Championships, Mr. Helmut Ranze, all ITOs, Referees & Judges and the Competition Manager Mr. Nazzareno Mela for their important commitment which offered an unforgettable competition to European Union Team
I would like to reconfirm a special thank to all participants for a particular reason. One year ago this territory was hit by a strong earthquake and now the presence of many people from 20 Countries of Europe testifies that life continues and the tourists can come once again to visit these wonderful cities like Cascia and Norcia.
Considerations on the AIBA World Boxing Championships Hamburg 2017
First of all, I would like to thank the German Boxing Federation and its President Mr. Jurgen Kyas, the Secretary General Mr. Michael Muller and all the LOC Staff for their strong effort and commitment in organizing the AIBA World Boxing Championships 2017.
It was the third World Championships edition in the German Boxing Federation history and unanimously, Hamburg, the old city, overlooking the North Sea, offered one of the highest technical and spectacular editions.
On the way, 243 athletes representing 75 nations. Between the first sound of the gong at the Sporthalle on 25 August, which saw the Puerto Rican lowland Collazo beat the Belarusian Karmilchyk and the last one, struck on September 2, which allocated the gold of “Giants” among Azerbaijan-Majidov and Kazakh Kunkabayev, 233 bouts were held, with a high, sometimes dramatic, agonist component and very exciting fightings.
In the front row CUBA and then the nations of the former Soviet Union, with Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
Cuban boxers have been able to turn boxers-dancers into athletes capable of showing technical skill and athletic consistency. A team that combines talent and experience.
America has kept the top of the most rewarded continent banner thanks to the USA’s contribution, featuring five very young boxers, three of which, in addition to the five gold and silver medals of Cuba, received the medals along with Colombia and Ecuador.
Cuba celebrated De La Cruz’s fourth title (81Kg) and the first of Erislandy Savon (91Kg) who won gold at the fifth attempt. Failed poker from the lightweight Alvarez Estrada, stunned by the amazing Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha, who exploited well the long levers, confirming the progress, shown in silver at Rio.
Asia presented with justified ambitions after the Olympic medals with Uzbekistan (3 golds, two silver and 2 bronzes) Kazakhstan (1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze), in addition to the podiums of China and Mongolia, while presenting teams strong and expert, have perhaps harvested less than expected.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, with 6 semifinalists per head, have collected only one gold per head; podiums for India, South Korea and Mongolia, confirming the strength of the assemblies of the present nations.
Europe, with a calendar of important events, underpinned by the expansion of values in an ever-increasing number of nations, has demonstrated its value, succeeding in maintaining its top positions thanks to the nine nations that arrived to medal. Despite the fact that the Russian contribution was less than expected, with only two medals, no gold.
In addition to France, Ukraine’s highest podium has been reached with the middleweight Khyzhniak, a spectacular boxer who has been awarded the best athlete.
Azerbaijan, thanks to +91Kg Majidov, who after 2011 and 2013, absent from injury in 2015, has won the third gold medal.
For Europe, on the podium are also England, Armenia, Georgia, Ireland and Germany.
Australia and Africa have been awarded with bronze medal.
And now we will look forward for the next 2019 edition that will be held in Sochi, Russia.

SEPTEMBER MONTHLY ACTIVITY
Among many international tournaments scheduled in September, a special attention deserves the EUBC European Junior Championship which will be held from September 17th to 26th in Albena, Bulgaria.
The values of the transition from Junior to Youth and Elite age is essential and it is very important for our athletes to have a constant and high quality boxing activity. The EUBC European Junior Championship represents for our young boxers the first major step outside their borders which is mandatory towards the construction and improvement of their boxing background.
Only in this way we will be able to form the Champions of today and tomorrow.
