Turning point of the EUBC European Youth Championships26 October 2017
The 27th Edition of the EUBC European youth Championship (1999-2000), one of flagships of EUBC, chaired by Mr. Franco Falcinelli – who will attend the finals -, is at the turning point. After 148 matches began on October 21st, tournament reached the quarterfinals and indicated the best 40 boxers who will go up on the podium. Today is the rest day. Of the 33 Nations departing remained only 14, less than last year (15) and than 2014 where had risen on the podium 22 countries. The ranking is dominated by Russia: in 2015 won 7 medals, in 2016 9, today 8. The tournament had very fought matches in all weight divisions. Among semifinalists has left a deep impression on Irish welterweight Dessen, with his varied boxing and impressive speed. The challenge in the semifinals with English Dickinson, a warrior devoted to attack, it will be epic. In kg + 91, Croatian Biletic and Azerbaijani Abdullayev confirmed the power of their shots and the Turkish Ilyas has forced to defeat the Russian Khidirov, national champion of the category. The other Russian eliminated is the flyweight Zaytsevche succumbed to the increased aggressiveness of Ukrainian Galinichev. Only one defending european champion is present: it is the Russian Piskunov, gold in the 52 kg at Anapa (Russia), increased to 60 kg and entered into semifinals.
On the podium will be Russia (8), Ukraine and Turkey (5), Georgia and Azerbaijan (4), Belarus (3), England, Bulgaria and Ireland (2); Hungary, Czech Croatia, Romania, Poland (1). Outside medals France, Armenia, Moldova, the Baltic States Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Slovakia, Spain, Scotland, Finland and Israel. Outside also Italy, with seven rookies, that in previous three editions had obtained at least one gold. The Greece with only one athlete, Nanitzanian, who defeated Safarian (Poland) and Pavel (Czech), is arrived to medal. The Turkey, hosting the Championships, is running with 5 athletes: an important step forward, the last gold was in 2001, when the Championships were called junior (17/19 years). This time can aspire to the victory with Demirhan (52), Otcu (56) Erdemir (64), Acar (91) and lyas (+ 91). In 2001, held in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in lightweight won Aydun Selchuk at the expence of Russian Makar Malina, while in 91+ won Russian the Islam Timurzjev. Even Ukraine, one of the strongest Nations, despite having always brought athletes in the final. chasing victory by 2014, with the maximum Kostantin Pinchuk; this time try with Galinichev (52), Bondarchuk (60), Papkin (75), Pavlovskiy (81) and Kartsan (91). The semifinals will be Friday October 27 in two rounds (2pm and 5pm) and finals Saturday October 28 beginning at 6,30 pm.
