Strong boxers are on the board of the upcoming 42nd Tammer Tournament

The 41st Tammer Tournament opened the year in January 2022 which was postponed from October 2021. The next 42nd Tammer Tournament will be held in the city of Tampere on November 10-14. It means that this is the very first time in the history of the event when two editions of the Tammer Tournament take place in one year.

Altogether 8 female and 67 male boxers have registered to the 42nd Tammer Tournament from four Confederations. The participating nations will be Belgium, Brazil, Cape Verde, England, Estonia, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Morocco, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and Wales.

The men’s featherweight (57kg) will be one of the strongest categories in the upcoming 42nd Tammer Tournament. Brazil’s AMBC American Champion Luiz Gabriel Oliveira Chalot, Belgium’s EUBC European Champion Vasile Usturoi, Ireland’s Commonwealth Games winner duo as Jude Gallagher and Dylan Eagleson are all on the board of the Tammer Tournament.

Morocco’s 2015 World Champion Mohammed Rabii was a fantastic boxer but after six years of break, he returned to the national team and he is planning to participate in the new edition of the Tammer Tournament. The 29-year-old Moroccan’s new category is the middleweight (75kg) where his main rival could be the silver medallist of the EUBC European Elite Boxing Championships, Lewis Richardson of England.

The men’s heavyweight (92kg) is another exciting category in the Tammer Tournament, as two medallists from the last World Boxing Championships, Keno Machado of Brazil and Victor Schelstraete of Belgium will be there in Tampere. Brazil’s Olympic Games bronze medallist Abner Junior Teixeira could be the star of the super heavyweight (+92kg) while Morocco’s veteran Abdelhaq Nadir also registered to participate in Tampere.

Finland’s best women boxers, the U22 medallists Vilma Viitanen and Pihla Kaivo-Oja have strong chance to earn top results for the host nation’s squad. Both will have excellent rivals such as Brazil’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Caroline De Almeida, Tatiana Chagas or Morocco’s Widad Bertal.

The host and the head of the organizers of the tournament is the local boxing association and one of our experienced Technical Delegates, Ms. Anna Laukkanen of Finland. Her key role in the Tammer Tournament will guarantee unforgettable moments for the teams and professional organization.

The venue of the traditional competition is the Pyynikki Sports Hall as in the previous years. The competition will be held in two female and eleven male weight categories in Tampere as in the 41st edition. The Tammer Tournament was launched in 1977 and the city of Tampere hosted the AIBA Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in 1993.
