Presentation of EUBC Schoolboys and Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships – Albena (BUL), 21/30 May 2018
21 May 2018From 21 until 30 May 2018, in the resort town of Albena (Bulgaria) bordering on Black Sea, will be held the EUBC European Boxing Championships reserved to Schoolboys and, for the first time, Schoolgirls, namely women’s sector.
Very young boxers, among 13 and 14 years old, will rise on the ring, engaged in 3 round of 1’30’’, with 1’ of rest between each round.
A little history
The continental history of Schoolboys is born in 2008 in Rome (Italy), under the EUBC aegis with EUBC President, Mr. Franco Falcinelli.
The innovation of this edition is the participation, for the first time, of the women’s sector that will contribute to the improvement of the development of women’s boxing practice. Increased of competitive activity gives more opportunity for women’s athletes to express and improve their technical quality.
Some numbers
Statistically, Russia hosted 5 of the 15 editions (2005, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015), two in Hungary (2004, 2014); one in Italy (2003), Ukraine (2006), England (2007), Serbia (2008), Bulgaria (2010), Ireland (2013), Croatia (2016) and Romania (2017).
The superiority of Russia is undeniable with its 150 golds won with an average of 10 golds won in each edition.
Following Ukraine with 30 golds, Ireland and England with 13 golds, Turkey and Azerbaijan with 8 golds, Armenia with 5 golds, Hungary and Moldova with 4 golds, Bulgaria with 3 golds, Belarus, Georgia, Germany, Israel, Romania and Italy with 2 golds.
A success for Latvia, Denmark and Croatia.
Weight Categories
In 2003 there are 12 weight categories, from 46 kg to 86 kg.
From 2004 until 2008 weight categories go up to 16, from 38,5 kg to +72 kg.
In 2009 it comes to 18 weight categories, with the addition of 76 kg and +76 kg.
In 2017 weight categories go up to 20, with the addition of 80 kg and +80 kg.
In 2018, this edition, weight categories are:
(men) – 38.5 kg, 40 kg, 41,5 kg, 43 kg, 44,5 kg 46 kg, 48 kg, 50 kg, 52 kg, 54 kg, 56 kg, 59 kg, 62 kg, 65 kg, 68 kg, 72 kg, 76 kg, 80 kg, 90 kg, 90 – 105 kg;
(women) – 33-36 kg, 39 kg, 42 kg, 45 kg, 48 kg, 51 kg, 54 kg, 57 kg, 60 kg, 63 kg, 67 kg , 70 kg.
