A stunner in Sofia expected as Genov and Bauderlique battle in crunch Light Heavyweight clash
18 July 2015Two crucial AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) Light Heavyweight (81 kg) Cycle I Round 2 matches will take place on Saturday night in Sofia, Bulgaria where Spas Genov (BUL) fights Mathieu Bauderlique (FRA) in the main event.
Viewers around the world will be able to watch the match live and free from 21:00 (GMT+3) at https://www.youtube.com/user/AIBAproboxingTV, as both men are desperate to earn a future title match with APB Light Heavyweight Champion Ehsan Rouzbahani (IRI).
Additionally, the winner will also secure a qualification quota for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Genov superbly won the 2006 European Championships, before a switch to the professional ranks resulted in an excellent 7-0 record with six stoppage victories.
Only APB allows pro boxers to compete in the Olympic Games however, so Genov’s switch to the premier format of boxing has enabled him to stand on the cusp of qualification for Rio 2016, and he can achieve that momentous honour in front of his passionate Bulgarian fanbase.
Strong southpaw Bauderlique represents a very difficult opponent though, and he amassed a superb 9-0 undefeated record in the professional ranks, before also signing with APB in order to achieve his dream of competing at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Bauderlique shockingly stopped Joseph Ward (IRE) in round four of their Cycle I Round 1 bout, while Genov’s strength took him to a well-deserved victory over Kennedy St Pierre (MRI).
The power both men generate is among the best in APB, and each has the ability to land a match-stopping blow at any point in their contest.
Genov has the advantage of having boxed over the eight round format in this competition which he comfortably achieved against St Pierre, while Bauderlique has stopped his last two APB opponents in four and six rounds respectively.
With so much at stake, and so much experience belonging to each world class athlete, expect a tremendously absorbing battle with plenty of heart, strength and technical ability.
The second Light Heavyweight match in Sofia will see Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medalist Kennedy St Pierre (MRI) and 2013 AIBA World Championships bronze medalist Joseph Ward (IRE) aim to return to winning ways, and move up the APB rankings as a result.
