AIBA NEWS: Dr Wu meets Russian Sports Vice Minister
02 April 2014The AIBA President, Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu had an official meeting with the Russian Sports Vice-Minister Mr. Pavel Kolobkov, while on his visit to Moscow for the WSB quarterfinal match between the Russian Boxing Team and the Ukraine Otamans.
The AIBA President thanked the Ministry for the support they have afforded to the Russian Boxing Federation, as well as describing AIBA’s future plans and explaining boxing’s Olympic Qualification System for Rio 2016.
In turn, the Russian Vice-Minister stated: “We appreciate your desire and efforts to make boxing more interesting for audiences and TV, as well as making it more competitive in comparison to other sports.”
Mr. Kolobkov also mentioned that one of the recent developments by AIBA – the changes in the age limits for elite boxing – has had a very positive impact on boxing development in Russia.
Dr Wu thanked the Russian authorities for providing their support while organising this important WSB match. The Russian Vice-Minister emphasised that with the arrival of the WSB in Russia, the popularity of boxing has increased in the country, as the local audience had the chance to watch the Russian Boxing Team taking on the best boxers in the world.
