AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships #Jeju14

The Chinese Boxing Federation recently invited the best women’s boxers from Australia, Finland, Italy, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan together for a joint training camp where the athletes can spar and prepare ahead of future tournaments. This training camp base is in the city of Qianan, which is located in the Province of Hebei in the Eastern part of the country. Qianan will be the host of the 2016 AIBA Asian/Oceanian Olympic Qualification Tournament before the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. China is one of the leading nations in world boxing, and their athletes are preparing with full speed for the upcoming ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Continental Championships. In excellent news for Chinese boxing, their three­time AIBA Women’s World Champion Ren Cancan and 2012 AIBA Women’s World Champion Yuan Meiqing have both returned to the sport. Kazakhstan sent its team to Qianan to prepare together with future tough opponents. Their top women’s boxer Nazym Kyzaybay achieved a historic success in the last edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Jeju when she bagged a gold medal at the Light Flyweight class (48 kg), and since then she has moved up to the Olympic Flyweight class (51 kg) ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Australia’s Commonwealth Games winner Shelley Watts is one of the most exciting Lightweight class (60 kg) boxers in the world, and advanced to the Top 8 in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Jeju, Korea. Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist and AIBA Women’s World Championships silver medallist Caitlin Parker is only 19, but joined the elite level in January. AIBA Women’s World Championships competitors such as Lauren Camilleri, Kristy Harris, Cherneka Johnson and Kaye Scott are also at the training camp. The Italian delegation consists of four strong athletes including EUBC European Women’s Continental Champion and AIBA Women’s World Championships silver medallist veteran Marzia Davide, AIBA Women’s World Championships bronze medallist Alessia Mesiano, experienced Romina Marenda and new team member Francesca Amato. The Sri Lankan Boxing Association also sent four athletes to Qianan, including ASBC Asian Women’s Continental Championships bronze medallist Dapana Durage Shiromali Weerarathna. Commonwealth Games boxer Keshani Hansika Arachchi, Heshani Tharuka Widanelage and Arachchilage Dulani Jayasinghe also traveled to Qianan. Finland’s Mira Potkonen won the Golden Girl Championships and the Strandja Memorial Tournament this year, and prepares in China ahead the Nordic Championships which will be held in Tampere, Finland.
