Newsletter EUBC by President Franco Falcinelli – September 2017

12 October 2017 News

Dear Boxing Friends,

European Boxing activity continues uninterrupted.

In September, Poland, Turkey, Spain, Bulgaria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Switzerland have organized high quality International tournaments and championships.

Among the tournaments, from 17 to 26 September in Albena (Bulgaria), took place the 21st edition of EUBC European Junior Boxing Championships with 32 countries represented by excellent boxers.

The values of the transition from Junior to Youth and Elite age is very important to have a constant and high quality boxing activity. The EUBC European Junior Championship represents for ourboxersthe first major step outside their borders which is necessary towards the improvement of their boxing background.

The war between the AIBA Executive Committee and the AIBA President is still tough. The Swiss Court did not consider the IMC (Interim Management Committee) to be a valid body of AIBA.

The IMC was not a foreign body of AIBA. It was made up of 5 members of its EC and would have been useful to lead the AIBA collegially to the Extraordinary Congress.

We respect the decisions of the Swiss Court and as the Extraordinary Congress, convened by the EC in accordance with the AIBA Statutes, has also been considered as a non-valid decision, the National Federations will call for it instead of the EC.

Soon a third of AIBA National Member Federationswill call for the Extraordinary Congress to take place within 3 months.

The European National Federations have in mass sent their letters to AIBA and, this time, the Swiss Court will not prevent the celebration of the Congress, which will end a competition that strongly affects the present and the future of our sport.

We have informed the IOC President regarding the incorrect attitude of President Wu and the IOC Legal Department has declared “As a matter of policy, IOC does not respond to open letters”.

President Wu considered this statement as a personal support from the IOC.

The opposition continuedas President Wu refused to summon the Extraordinary Congress and let the boxing people decide their future in the only democratic way offered by the AIBA Statutes.

The last chance for the EC members was to let the AIBA Disciplinary Commission decide.

And, finally, the Disciplinary Commission issued an immediate suspension decision against President Wu.

“……from the Presidency of AIBA, including, but not limited to, suspension ofall powers, functions, duties, and responsibilities associated with the office of AIBA President“.

We are not happy of the suspension of President Wu, because it gives a bad image of our Olympic sport.

However, we have to give our best efforts to recover the prestige of our glorious past, by continuing to promote and to organize a good teaching, adequate training, attractive competitions, fair technical results and to spread press and media releases at all levels.
