On March 28 and April 4, the World Series of Boxing (WSB) quarter-finals will capture the attention of all boxing fans around the world.

Team Germany vs. Astana Arlans Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan Baku Fires vs. Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder, Russia Boxing Team vs. Ukraine Otamans, USA Knockouts vs. Cuba Domadores, all the best boxing nations facing each other.

In the build-up to the start of the most exciting WSB Playoffs to date and prior to the most anticipated USA vs. Cuba match, has gathered the feelings of Alberto Puig de la Barca, President of the Cuban Boxing Federation.

“The qualification of the Cuba Domadores for the quarter-finals is the reward of all our effort and it confirms our level of boxing in this debut season.

“The work of the athletes, coaches, doctors, physiotherapists and everybody else has helped us in dominating this Group B, which was known as the “Group of Death”. We have finished the Regular Season with nine matches won out of ten and we now aim to move forward.

“The USA Knockouts represent a country with a long tradition in boxing, and have some quality foreign athletes. So I am sure this quarter-final match will be complicated for both teams. No matter what, our goal is always to go out and win every single fight.

“The buzz has now been created amongst boxing fans in Cuba.. Now that we know the lineups, the entire country has started predicting the results of each bout or at least commenting on them. This demonstrates the massive interest that the WSB benefits from in our country.

“The results of our athletes have increased the interest of our very knowledgeable audience and I am sure that venue of la Ciudad Deportiva de La Habana will be packed on April 4.

“Encouraged by all of the above, we can ensure that this quarter-final will be another milestone in our WSB history. Facing the USA, when you know the traditional rivalry between both countries, reminds me of the numerous dual matches we have had against them.

“There have been 18 matches between 1977 and 1995 and most of matches ended in our favor, like the last one we won 10-2 in Connecticut. We are now preparing very seriously to make sure we can overcome the hurdle and qualify for the semi-finals.

“We have always recognized the quality of US boxing and we are happy to see the sport having a great future in the country as demonstrated recently with the large difference with which the USA won the Pan American Youth Championship.

“We hope that USA vs. Cuba matches will take place many times in the future and our Federation has the best possible willingness to develop scientific, technical and sports programs with USA Boxing.”
