#WSBV Day 10 – Precise Puerto Rico Hurricanes enjoy home win over Italia Thunder
23 March 2015A close night of World Series of Boxing (WSB) action in San Juan was won by Puerto Rico Hurricanes 3-2 over Italia Thunder.
The result earned a third win in four matches for the North American team who are making a late rally to qualify from Group B of WSB.
Puerto Rico’s 4-1 Jeyvier Cintrón Ocasio achieved an impressive TKO victory against Italian debutant Francesco Barotti in the first bout of the evening.
This achievement was significant after the second ranked Flyweight (52 kg) Brent Venegas III lost this weekend, so Ocasio will now overtake the American which gives the Puerto Rican an excellent chance of qualifying for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games via WSB.
Jose Rosario then accomplished his fourth win of the season for Puerto Rico by edging a split decision verdict over Donato Cosenza, and the undefeated Lightweight (60 kg) will move up the rankings as a result.
Ireland’s Adam Nolan pulled a win back for Italia Thunder in his WSB debut with a split decision victory against Welterweight (69 kg) Nicklaus Flaz.
Italy’s number two ranked Light heavyweight (81 kg) Valentino Manfredonia put himself firmly in control of his own Rio 2016 qualification destiny, and evened up the scoring for his Franchise by stopping Davey Vega in round two of their bout.
Both of Manfredonia’s main Light heavyweight rivals, Julio César la Cruz of the Cuba Domadores and Croatia’s Hrvoje Sep also won this weekend, so the Italian will be pleased not just with his victory, but the manner of the result as well.
3-0 Hurricane Super heavyweight (91+ kg) Clayton Laurent Jr secured the victory for his team in the last fight of the night with a split decision success over Guido Vianello.
Puerto Rico Hurricanes visit Caciques Venezuela next week, while Italia Thunder host Argentina Condors.
