#WSBV Day 7 – Astana Arlans Kazakhstan clinch seventh successive win against Italia Thunder
01 March 2015An outstanding 3-2 comeback victory against a gallant Italia Thunder ensured the winning run for Astana Arlans Kazakhstan stretches to seven in the World Series of Boxing (WSB).
Boosted by excellent home support in Almaty, the Kazakh Franchise remain top of Group B, while Italy will take confidence from a spirited performance away from home.
The night began with success for the Thunder as Patrick Barnes displayed just why he is the top ranked Light flyweight (49 kg) by extending his undefeated record to 4-0 with a solid victory over 1-1 Temirtas Zhussupov.
Michael Conlon, an Irish international and Italia Thunder teammate of Barnes nearly made it 2-0 for the away side, but narrowly lost a tight split decision verdict to 2013 AIBA World Championships bronze medalist Kairat Yeraliyev at Bantamweight (56 kg).
Despite the fight being stopped early in the fifth round due to a cut sustained by Yeraliyev, it was the Astana Arlans athlete who was awarded the victory.
Italy retook the lead at Light welterweight (64 kg) as Vincenzo Mangiacapre won his third match of the campaign, and every round against Askhat Ualikhanov.
The contest was again even after a superb display from Kazakh Middleweight (75 kg) Meiirim Nursultanov who went 3-0 for the season with a dominant performance over Italian debutant Raffaele Munno.
Kazakhstan would not have wanted anybody else to compete in the deciding match than Vasiliy Levit, and the Heavyweight (91 kg) secured his fourth successive WSB win inside the distance, and the overall victory for his Franchise when Endri Spahiu was disqualified in round two of their match.
Astana Arlans Kazakhstan seek their eighth win in a row next week away to Caciques Venezuela, while Italia Thunder host Azerbaijan Baku Fires.
