#WSBV Day 8 – China Dragons slay British Lionhearts in Sanya07 March 2015
China won the evening 4-1, but were on the winning end of three split decision verdicts, which could have tipped the result towards the European Franchise.
No Chinese fighter on the card had won a single WSB match before the action started, but by
the end four had successfully opened their success accounts.
Flyweight (52 kg) Chang Yong was victorious in the first match of the evening, as he won by split decision against two-time European medalist José Kelvin de la Nieve Linares.
Two judges awarded the fight to Yong 48:47, while the third though the Lionheart dominated the bout 49:46.
A second Dragons victory occurred at Lightweight (60 kg) when Jun Shan won a close unanimous decision verdict over Oualid Belaoura.
The overall victory was assured for China as Welterweight (69 kg) Liu Wei won widely on two scorecards against Britain’s 2-2 Haizel Ekow Tabiri-Essuman.
Yet another Chinese win took place at Light heavyweight (81 kg) as 1-0 Yibulayin Abudureyimu defeated 1-2 John Newell.
Lionheart Newell was given every round by one judge, but Abudureyimu impressed the other two more.
Britain’s 4-0 Joseph Joyce then earned a valuable win for his Olympic qualification hopes in the last fight, as he stormed to the top of the Super heavyweight (91+ kg) rankings with a round one TKO of Vladan Babic.
China Dragons travel to Russian Boxing Team next week, while British Lionhearts host Ukraine Otamans.
