I would like to focus on some considerations.
The AIBA Extraordinary Congress reconfirmed full confidence to President C.K. WU and to EC, rejecting the accusations disseminated in the press and by sharing the managerial choices and AIBA policies.
Regarding Rio 2016 results, I have to highlight that Europe has had a slight decline compared to London 2012.
I would like to express my personal conviction shared by leading coaches: the technical level of the best European boxers has visibly lowered.
In my opinion we must reconsider the technical and tactical focus on talents, because this is the basic aim to re- launch boxing popularity in the media and TV.
After 30 years of boxing with headguard, we have greatly neglected the completion of the execution of the blows, the anticipation and counterattack action. Therefore, I would mention to our Coaches that “removal of headguard” is not only a statutory, but a measure to which deep technical and tactical content should be given. A large incidence of injuries prevention goes through a more careful technical and tactical training.
The final message is directed to the RR/JJes. It is paramount to have uniformity and fairness of technical results! The opening to pro boxing does not mean recant AIBA Technical Rules. Some persistent fouls, as hitting with the inside of the hands, should be punished not only with Caution, but also with Warnings. This is the only way to convince the Coaches to update their teaching.
